Lola June Klitzing

Lola J. Klitzing, 97, of Champaign, passed away at 2:35 p.m. Saturday, March 16, 2024 at Carle Hospital. Mrs. Klitzing was born Dec. 14, 1926 in Urbana, IL, the daughter of Clyde and Doris Brown. She married Melvin R. Klitzing on Oct. 17, 1953. He passed away on Sept. 3, 2015. Surviving are 3 children: Terry (Larry) Martin and Patty Sandberg of Champaign, and Steve (Nicole) Klitzing of Ft. Wayne, IN; 5 grandchildren, Michael (Katie) Martin of Champaign, Ryan (Mallory) Sandberg of St. Paul Park, MN, Melanie Klitzing of Indianapolis IN, Rachel (Tanner) Killian of London, OH, and Derek (Lauren) Klitzing of Ft. Wayne, IN, and 2 great grandchildren, Madison and Coen Martin of Champaign. She was preceded in death by 4 sisters and 1 brother. Lola graduated from Urbana H.S. and worked as a secretary at State Farm Insurance and Champaign Unit 4 Schools. She was a member of St. John Lutheran Church, Champaign. She enjoyed watching Illini basketball and the St. Louis Cardinals, gardening and crocheting. Memorial contributions can be made to the Alzheimers Assoc., The Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinsons or St. John Lutheran Church. The family would like to thank Jessica and her wonderful staff of caregivers for the love they all showed her these past months. The Reverend Jeff Caithamer will conduct private family services on Saturday, March 23.
